Getting Wisdom | Grace Devotional for Christian Women
Getting Wisdom
Pro 4:7 KJB - Wisdom is the principal thing; therefore get wisdom: and with all thy getting get understanding.
In this dispensation of grace, God grows us from the inside out. He doesn’t guide us today through signs or circumstances, but through knowledge, understanding, wisdom, and charity working together in the inner man. These are the building blocks of spiritual maturity Paul prayed for in the saints.
Knowledge — What God Has Said
Knowledge is the truth God reveals in His Word, especially (for us today) the doctrine given through Paul for the Body of Christ today.
It is the foundation of spiritual growth.
Without knowledge, we drift. With knowledge, we stand.
Knowledge says:
“This is what God has said, and I believe Him.”
Understanding — Seeing How the Truth Fits Together
Understanding is the ability to grasp the meaning, purpose, and connections within God’s truth.
Paul prayed that believers would have “all wisdom and spiritual understanding” (Colossians 1:9).
Col 1:9 "For this cause we also, since the day we heard it, do not cease to pray for you, and to desire that ye might be filled with the knowledge of his will in all wisdom and spiritual understanding;"
Understanding is when the pieces of Scripture begin to make sense in their proper place—Times Past, But Now, and Ages to Come. It is seeing the big picture of God’s plan and where we fit in it.
Understanding says:
“I see how this truth works and why it matters.”
Wisdom — Applying Truth to Daily Life
Wisdom is truth lived out.
It is taking knowledge and understanding and letting them shape your choices, your reactions, and your priorities.
Wisdom is practical. It shows up in how you speak, how you respond, how you endure, and how you love.
Wisdom says:
“I will walk in the truth I know and understand.”
Charity — The Mature Expression of Christ in You
Charity is the highest, most mature expression of the inner man.
It is love that acts for another’s good, grounded in truth, empowered by grace.
Charity is patient, gentle, forgiving, and steady.
It is the life of Christ flowing through you toward others.
Charity says:
“Because Christ loves me, I will love others well by allowing Christ to live through me.”
How They Work Together
• Knowledge gives you truth.
• Understanding helps you see how truth fits together.
• Wisdom teaches you how to live that truth.
• Charity shows Christ’s life working through you.
This is the graceful progression of spiritual growth in the Body of Christ. God forms Christ in you—not through pressure, but through renewal.
📝 Journaling Prompts
1. Where do I sense the Lord inviting me to grow—in knowledge, understanding, wisdom, or charity
2. How would my day look different if I responded to challenges with wisdom instead of emotion
🙏 Prayer
Father, thank You for giving me knowledge through Your Word, understanding through Your Spirit, wisdom for daily living, and charity that reflects Christ. Grow these qualities in me. Help me walk in truth, respond with grace, and love with maturity. Let Christ be seen in me today. Amen.
