Learning to Be Meek and Quiet

Proverbs 29:11 11A fool uttereth all his mind: but a wise man keepeth it in till afterwards. Proverbs 25:28 28He that hath no rule over his own spirit is like a city that is broken down, and without walls. Proverbs 9:13 13 A foolish woman is clamorous: she is simple, and knoweth nothing. 1 Peter 3:1-4 1 Likewise, ye wives, be in subjection to your own husbands; that, if any obey not the word, they also may without the word be won by the conversation of the wives; 2 While they behold your chaste conversation coupled with fear. 3 Whose adorning let it not be that outward adorning of plaiting the hair, and of wearing of gold, or of putting on of apparel; 4 But let it be the hidden man of the heart, in that which is not corruptible, even the ornament of a meek and quiet spirit, which is in the sight of God of great price. Learning to Be Quiet  In a world that often va...

How to Stop Gossiping

How to Stop Gossiping  James 3:7-8 in the KJB says, 7For every kind of beasts, and of birds, and of serpents, and of things in the sea, is tamed, and hath been tamed of mankind: 8But the tongue can no man tame; it is an unruly evil, full of deadly poison. It's not even possible for an unbeliever to tame their tongue. Keep this in mind the next time that you are shocked by the things that unbelievers say! In olden days, man made more of an attempt to try to tame their tongue which is why etiquette and manners were introduced into civilized societies. Wars and all kinds of calamities have been a result of unruly tongues! The reason why the tongue can be so offensive is because the tongue speaks what is in our hearts, and an unbelievers heart is desperately wicked. Therefore, no unbeliever can truly tame his tongue not to speak evil things. Jeremiah 17:9 in the KJB says, "The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately wicked: who can know it?" Howeve...

Living Simply for Homemakers

Romans 12:8 “... he that giveth, let him do it with simplicity; he that ruleth, with diligence; he that sheweth mercy, with cheerfulness.” As Christian wives, mothers and homemakers, instead of living for the things of this world, we are to stay heavenly minded. We talked about contentment and thankfulness previously and I want to talk about a practical way to apply that, which is to live more simply. This can include keeping a simple homemaker schedule and daily routines as mentioned previously, as well as not spending more than we or our husbands make by keeping a budget, not overwhelming our homes with too much stuff (we don't have to be extreme minimalists either though), etc.  We can also keep our conversations polite, clean and edifying. Practice good manners and basic etiquette. We can choose to let go of the need to try and keep up with all of the fashions of this world and choose to live simple instead. 1 Corinthians 7:31 says, 31 "And they that use this wo...

Reducing Stress in the Home

Philippians 4:6 Be careful for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God.   We can be homemakers without being stressed out. Stress is being overwhelmed by the things in life. God wants us to "be careful for nothing" and to instead pray and let our requests be made known unto God. What this means is to not fret or obsessively worry ourselves about the things of this world but to stay heavenly minded. Then, we are to pray based upon God's word rightly divided, knowing and understanding what God is doing today in the dispensation of grace, which for believers is to mature us spiritually and for us to share the gospel with others.  On a very practical level, one way to reduce stress at home is to have less worldly influence in your home. Are you spending the day watching the news, with all of its negative reports about crime, politics and celebrity gossip? How about spending more time listening to Bible ...

Being Content as Homemakers

Philippians 4:11 Not that I speak in respect of want: for I have learned, in whatsoever state I am, therewith to be content. Paul had to LEARN to be content and this is also something that we need to learn. In fact Paul also said in 1 Timothy 6:8 " And having food and raiment let us be therewith content ." He mentions food and clothing and doesn't even mention shelter! Most of us in western society have far more than just food and clothing! Can we learn to be content? Yes! Paul also goes on to say in 1 Timothy 6: 9-11, "9 But they that will be rich [meaning those who make their lives all about "the mighty dollar"] fall into temptation and a snare, and into many foolish and hurtful lusts, which drown men in destruction and perdition. 10  For the love of money is the root of all evil: which while some coveted after, they have erred from the faith, and pierced themselves through with many sorrows. 11 But thou, O man of God, flee these things; and follow afte...

Homemaking is a Ministry

As mentioned in a previous study, God cares about homemaking. So today let's talk about some practical ways to minister to your family through being a homemaker.  • Read the Bible together regularly and have personal Bible study time too. Proverbs 22:6 KJV Train up a child in the way he should go: And when he is old, he will not depart from it. 2 Timothy 1:5 “When I call to remembrance the unfeigned faith that is in thee, which dwelt first in thy grandmother Lois, and thy mother Eunice; and I am persuaded that in thee also.” As a homemaker you can make reading the Bible together as a family a regular thing. You can begin and/or end the day with reading the Bible for a certain amount of time (even 10-15 minutes is great!) as well as perhaps any grace devotionals or Bible studies that might help your children of various ages to understand scriptures.  It's also important that your children see you making your own personal Bible study a priority. You could do this before you...

Homemaking is Important to God

Homemaking is very important to God. God actually speaks about women being homemakers in scripture. Let's look at some verses. Titus 2:5 5 To be discreet, chaste, keepers at home, good, obedient to their own husbands, that the word of God be not blasphemed. Proverbs 14:1  - Every wise woman buildeth her house: but the foolish plucketh it down with her hands. Proverbs 31 27 She looketh well to the ways of her household , and eateth not the bread of idleness. 1 Timothy 5:14  - I will therefore that the younger women marry, bear children, guide the house, give none occasion to the adversary to speak reproachfully. Our lives as believers should not be all about worldly achievements and ambitions. When we are saved, the reason why God doesn't just take us up to heaven immediately is so that we can remain here a little while to: 1) Give the gospel to others. This would include our own children and teaching our children Gods word.   2) Read, study a...
