Who/What is a Saint?
Romans Introduction
In Romans chapter 1 Paul our Apostle, is addressing the saints that are in Rome.
Romans 1: 7 KJB says, "To all that be in Rome, beloved of God, called to be saints: Grace to you and peace from God our Father, and the Lord Jesus Christ."
A Saint is anyone who has ever believed the Gospel of the grace of God without works. It isn't someone who tries to earn their way to heaven, or someone who has done miraculous feasts but simply a person who has believed that Christ Jesus's death, burial and resurrection was an atonement for his or her sins. Once you believe the gospel, you have God's very own righteousness imputed to you. You become a new creature in Christ, a member of the body of Christ, given all spiritual blessings in Christ, seated with Christ in the Heavenly places, a child of God, holy and set apart for God, sealed with the Holy Spirit of promise, and you now have eternal life! The whole Godhead lives in you, you are complete in Christ and you are hid with Christ in God! This is amazing! All of these blessings can be read about in Paul's Epistles.
So, what about an unbeliever? Well, God loves all people and wants everyone to be saved - an unbeliever is in desperate, ugly territory as they are at enmity with God. But each person has a free will choice in whether or not to choose to believe God. Paul says in Romans chapter 1 verses 14-16 "I am debtor both to the Greeks, and to the Barbarians; both to the wise, and to the unwise. So, as much as in me is, I am ready to preach the gospel to you that are at Rome also. For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth; to the Jew first, and also to the Greek." Paul is living out God's will for a believer on earth as an ambassador for Christ and He specifically was set apart to be our appointed Apostle. He's sharing the Gospel of the grace of God with a sinful, lost and dying world. Unbelievers are desperate for new life in God, but they are stubborn, unthankful and blinded by satan. We must preach the Gospel to them and hope that they, like us, will believe it.
**Homework- Reread Romans chapter 1 in the KJB and if there are any words you don't understand, look up the definition in the 1828 websters dictionary which can be found online for free.
Journaling - if you are saved, how do you feel about being a Saint? Do you find joy, peace and comfort in being a part of God's family now? Is there anyone in your life that you could share the gospel with? Where did you first hear the Gospel and did you believe it at the time or did it take you awhile to come around to believing it?
