June Devotional: Rightly Divided Bible Study

June Devotional: Rightly Dividing the Scriptures

Understanding the Bible can sometimes be challenging, but the principle of “rightly dividing the word of truth” provides a clear framework for interpretation.

“Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.” (2 Timothy 2:15, KJV)

Devotional: “Rightly dividing the word of truth” involves recognizing the distinct ways God has interacted with humanity throughout history. This method, often referred to as dispensationalism, helps us understand the Bible’s overarching narrative and God’s specific instructions for different dispensations.
In 2 Timothy 2:15 in the KJB, Paul urges Timothy to be diligent in his study of Scripture, ensuring he correctly interprets and applies God’s Word. This involves distinguishing between God’s instructions for Israel under the Law and His instructions for the Church the Body of Christ under grace. By doing so, we can avoid confusion and accurately apply biblical principles to our lives.

The Bible can be divided into three main sections: “time past,” “but now,” and "ages to come". “Time past” refers to God’s dealings with Israel in previous dispensations, “but now” pertains to the current dispensation of grace for the Church the Body of Christ, and “ages to come” points to future events, including the rapture of the church the body of Christ, the resumption of God's program with Israel and Christ’s return to Earth at the end of the tribulation period and His millennial reign on Earth, the creation of the new heaven and new earth and the dispensation of the fulness of times.

Reflection: Consider how you approach your study of the Bible. Are you aware of the different dispensations and how they affect the interpretation of Scripture? Reflect on the importance of rightly dividing the Word and how it can deepen your understanding of God’s plan. Seek also a good Midacts Rightly Dividing Dispensational Grace church in your area and/or watch their Bible studies online. I have provided a link to a few great video's on Rightly Dividing below as well.

Prayer: Dear Heavenly Father, thank You for the wisdom of Your Word. Help us to rightly divide the Scriptures, understanding Your plan for different dispensations. Give us discernment and diligence in our study, so we may apply Your truths accurately in our lives. In Christ's name we pray, Amen.

“For whatsoever things were written aforetime were written for our learning, that we through patience and comfort of the scriptures might have hope.” (Romans 15:4, KJV)

May you find clarity and a deeper understanding in your study of the Bible, knowing that rightly dividing the Word is key to grasping God’s plan for humanity for all of the ages.
