Romans 3:10-18 | Women's Rightly Divided Bible Study
Father God, thank you for this time that we can spend reading and studying your word, in particular today the book of Romans chapter 3. And again, thank you also Father God for preserving your word for us perfectly and without error in the King James Bible.
Romans 3:10-18
This section of Romans chapter 3, in verses 10-18 is in reference also to Psalm 14:1-3 which says,
14 The fool hath said in his heart, There is no God. They are corrupt, they have done abominable works, there is none that doeth good. 2 The Lord looked down from heaven upon the children of men, to see if there were any that did understand, and seek God. 3 They are all gone aside, they are all together become filthy: there is none that doeth good, no, not one.
Now let's read Romans 3:10-18. I did briefly discuss verses 10 and 11 in our last study, but let's look over this whole section.
10 As it is written, There is none righteous, no, not one: 11 There is none that understandeth, there is none that seeketh after God. 12 They are all gone out of the way, they are together become unprofitable; there is none that doeth good, no, not one. 13 Their throat is an open sepulchre [a tomb or grave]; with their tongues they have used deceit; the poison of asps is under their lips: 14 Whose mouth is full of cursing and bitterness: 15 Their feet are swift to shed blood: 16 Destruction and misery are in their ways: 17 And the way of peace have they not known: 18 There is no fear of God before their eyes."
Unbelievers, whether they identify as "religious", or "athiest", or "agnostic" or even call themselves new-age "spiritual", or whatever, ALL unbelievers are like these verses. You might say, wait a minute. I'm a "good person". I take care of my family. I've never cheated on my spouse. I pay my taxes and I'm a good citizen. I give to charity. I got good grades in school. I've never been to jail or even gotten a parking ticket! I'm good enough for heaven!
Well, let me ask you. Have you ever told a lie? Have you ever felt jealous of someone else? Have you ever had a lustful thought about another person besides your spouse? Have you ever said or even thought of a curse word? These are also sins. Adam disobeyed God by eating forbidden fruit! And he died spiritually the moment that he did it (maybe even the moment that he had really thought of doing it!).
Jesus during His earthly ministry in Matthew 5 said,
21 Ye have heard that it was said of them of old time, Thou shalt not kill; and whosoever shall kill shall be in danger of the judgment: 22 But I say unto you, That whosoever is angry with his brother without a cause shall be in danger of the judgment: and whosoever shall say to his brother, Raca, shall be in danger of the council: but whosoever shall say, Thou fool, shall be in danger of hell fire."
And in verses 27 and 28 He goes on to say,
27 Ye have heard that it was said by them of old time, Thou shalt not commit adultery: 28 But I say unto you, That whosoever looketh on a woman to lust after her hath committed adultery with her already in his heart.
He uses other examples as well throughout that chapter.
The first thing that we have to do in order to be saved is to recognize our sin nature and realize that we cannot save ourselves. This isn't a work, but a change in our thinking. Then, we need to believe the gospel, (also, not a work) how that Christ Jesus died for our sins, was buried and rose again for our justification. The very moment that you believe that gospel, you are given eternal life in Christ!
