Romans 1:1-3 | Womens RD Grace Bible Study

ROMANS 1:1-3 KJB | Verse by Verse Bible Study for Women

Romans 1: 1-3 - so we have reviewed some of the basic teachings in Romans chapter 1, so let's go over the verses more closely, verse by verse.

But first, feel free to begin this Bible study with prayer.

So verses 1-7 are the introduction. Today we are going to discuss verses 1-3.

1. Paul, a servant of Jesus Christ, called to be an apostle, separated unto the gospel of God,

Again we have talked about how Paul is our appointed Apostle for the dispensation of grace (see here). Paul is completely separate from the 12 apostles (Gal 2:7-9). He writes specifically to the body of Christ, but he will also mention throughout his Epistles the unsaved Gentiles and Jews as well as the Jewish believing remnant. Paul qualifies as an Apostle because he saw the risen and ascended Lord Jesus Christ on the road to Damascus (Christ's light had blinded him temporarily) and was saved and called to be an apostle for the dispensation of grace (1 Cor 1:1). He was not with the Lord during his earthly ministry to Israel so he is not a kingdom Apostle. Rather, the Lord had appeared to him many times since Acts 9 (this is Mid-Acts) revealing to Him the doctrines of grace. Click here to read Acts chapter 9.

Unto me, who am less than the least of all saints, is this grace given, that I should preach among the Gentiles the unsearchable riches of Christ; And to make all men see what is the fellowship of the mystery…” – Ephesians 3:8-9

The 12 kingdom Apostles were called to leave their jobs, sell all they had, and follow the Lord into the kingdom (Luke 18:22). Paul however worked as a tent maker while he evangelized. He also had had apostolic powers for a time to prove his apostleship.

Truly the signs of an apostle were wrought among you in all patience, in signs, and wonders, and mighty deeds.” – 2 Corinthians 12:12

Without clearly understanding that God sent us a special apostle, you will be really mixed up in doctrine! When we reject Paul as our Apostle, we are essentially rejecting Christ and what God is doing today. We are not making too much of Paul. We are not worshipping Paul. Christ Jesus is our head, our Saviour and our Lord, not Paul. But it was our head, savior and Lord Jesus Christ who sent Paul to be "a pattern to them which should hereafter believe on him [Jesus] to life everlasting" (1 Tim 1:16).

2 (Which he had promised afore by his prophets in the holy scriptures,)

Let's clarify more the gospel of God and how it was promised in the Old Testament... the word gospel means the good news. There are other gospels in scripture but only Paul's Gospel saves us today. It has always been by faith that a person is saved in any dispensation. And it is the redemptive work of Jesus Christ (His blood atonement for our sins) that saves anyone from any dispensation. However, we are to believe the gospel of the grace of God today (see 1 Cor 15:1-4). The gospel of God specifically is the general gospel of the promised coming Redeemer (Gen. 3:15), a far reaching gospel that relates to all mankind. "The gospel of God" means the good news of God for the eternal life of man.

Genesis 3:15 KJB
And I will put enmity between thee and the woman, and between thy seed and her seed; it shall bruise thy head, and thou shalt bruise his heel.

3 Concerning his Son Jesus Christ our Lord, which was made of the seed of David according to the flesh;

Jesus Christ is God's Son and he is also our Lord. He is God but also a man, specifically he was born a Jewish man.

Matt 1:23 KJV "Behold, a virgin shall be with child, and shall bring forth a son, and they shall call his name Emmanuel, which being interpreted is, God with us."

Jesus Christ is also the creator of heaven and earth.

John 1: 1-5 KJV "In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. The same was in the beginning with God. All things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made. In him was life; and the life was the light of men. And the light shineth in darkness; and the darkness comprehended it not."

Next week we will go over verses 4-7.

*feel free to look up all verses in your King James Bible and study these verses out more for yourself.
