Enjoying Hobbies for Homemakers

Enjoying Hobbies at Home

Note: *These are just some helpful suggestions, not rules that you have to follow, but are some things that have worked for me.

We all need time for relaxation. Hobbies are a great way to help keep you from doing things that are not edifying. As Christian women we need to focus first on

• Personal Bible study

• Taking care of and ministering to our families (our children and husband)

• Keeping house (cleaning, cooking, laundry, etc)

• Any other ministry work (even something as simple as making a post online with scriptures).

For womens ministry, you could join or start a women's bible study group at home or at your church (teaching other women God's word rightly divided as well as teaching them biblical womanhood); or you could do something similar like me and teach through social media, YouTube, blogging or podcasting. You can also teach other women one-on-one in person or over the phone. If you are a busy mother, especially with young children, remember that ministering to your family should always come before ministering to those outside of your family and you may have to wait until your children are older before starting a ministry outside of your family life.

Hobbies are a good way to keep busy, while also having some enjoyment. Many hobbies can be done from home, even with small children around. Knitting, crochet, needlework, sewing, scrapbooking, bible journaling, scripture writing, baking, coloring, painting, photography, gardening, playing a musical instrument, reading Christian friendly fiction, jewelry making, quilt making etc.

I do recommend to make sure that your hobby is

• Not sinful or lustful in any way

• Affordable for your family

• Something that you can do in your spare time without major commitment (this will make things easier on you and your family and helps you to put God and family first)

• Something you enjoy even if you are not "really good at it"

• A bonus is if it's something that can benefit your home by adding beauty to it (like painting or embroidery etc) or things your whole family would like such as baking goodies or making scarves for everyone in the winter.

Paul said in 1 Thessalonians 4:11

“And that ye study to be quiet, and to do your own business, and to work with your own hands, as we commanded you;”

Colossians 3:17

17 And whatsoever ye do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God and the Father by him.

It is much better to have a healthy, christian and family friendly hobby that you can do with your hands at home rather than to spend all of your extra time surfing the internet, scrolling social media, engaging in gossip, watching negative news stories, bingewatching streaming services etc. Even better though is to spend extra time in Bible study, prayer and doing things with your family.

Finding Joy in Simplicity: Lessons from “ Little House on the Prairie ” and the Bible In today’s world, financial struggles can often feel overwhelming, but Christian women can find true happiness and contentment even in the midst of financial hardship. By drawing inspiration from the Bible and the beloved series “ Little House on the Prairie ,” we can discover how to cultivate joy and peace regardless of our economic circumstances. Biblical Foundations of Contentment The Bible offers profound wisdom on finding contentment and joy, irrespective of material wealth. One of the most powerful verses on this topic is found in Philippians 4:11-13, where Paul writes, “Not that I speak in respect of want: for I have learned, in whatsoever state I am, therewith to be content . I know both how to be abased, and I know how to abound: every where and in all things I am instructed both to be full and to be hungry, both to abound and to suffer need. I can do all things through Christ which ...
