Abundant Living for the Homemaker

1Ti 1:14 KJB

14 And the grace of our Lord was exceeding abundant with faith and love which is in Christ Jesus.

Jhn 6:35 KJB

35 And Jesus said unto them, I am the bread of life: he that cometh to me shall never hunger; and he that believeth on me shall never thirst.

John 10:10

10 The thief cometh not, but for to steal, and to kill, and to destroy: I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly.

I would like to talk about abundant living for the homemaker. By "abundant living", I do not mean financially abundant, but abundant in peace, joy and hope.

Begin with the Lord

Truly abundant living begins by being "in Christ". Without the Lord Jesus Christ, we are lacking in our greatest need which is to be made spiritually alive in Christ Jesus. All unbelievers are spiritually dead in their trespasses and sins. Without the life of Christ in them, they are on their way to the eternal lake of fire. But after we have recognized our sin nature and clearly understood that we cannot save ourselves, and have trusted in God to save us by then believing how that Christ Jesus died for our sins, was buried and rose again for our justification, we then will have eternal life!

Phl 4:19 KJB

19 But my God shall supply all your need according to his riches in glory by Christ Jesus.

Romans 1:16

16 For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth; to the Jew first, and also to the Greek.

We have also been supplied with God's precious word which is another great need that we have. As believers, we need to have God's word working in and through us. The King James Bible has been given unto us freely, and is the perfectly preserved word of God for us today in the English language. It is without error. We can trust our Bible. The word of God will also work in us effectually as we read and study it rightly divided daily.

1Th 2:13 KJB

13 For this cause also thank we God without ceasing, because, when ye received the word of God which ye heard of us, ye received it not as the word of men, but as it is in truth, the word of God, which effectually worketh also in you that believe.

We have all spiritual blessings

As believers, we now have all spiritual blessings in Christ Jesus. This alone should make us joyful and thankful every day!

Eph 1:3 KJB

3 Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who hath blessed us with all spiritual blessings in heavenly places in Christ:

We have a blessed hope

We also have a blessed hope as well, which includes us being delivered from the wrath to come. We can all see that this world is only waxing worse, and one day soon enough the Lord is going to call all of us believers home to our eternal home in the heavenly places.

Tit 2:13 KJB

13 Looking for that blessed hope, and the glorious appearing of the great God and our Saviour Jesus Christ;

1Th 1:10 KJB

10 And to wait for his Son from heaven, whom he raised from the dead, even Jesus, which delivered us from the wrath to come.

All of that being said, as believers we have much to be thankful for. We are ABUNDANT in spiritual blessings. If you are not yet saved, even if you have a wonderful family life and feel happy each day in this present world in the here and now, without the Lord your eternity future is doomed.

Mat 16:26 KJB

26 For what is a man profited, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul? or what shall a man give in exchange for his soul?

I beseech you to be reconciled to God.

2Co 5:20 KJB

20 Now then we are ambassadors for Christ, as though God did beseech you by us: we pray you in Christ's stead, be ye reconciled to God.

Be thankful

After we have acknowledged that the Lord Jesus Christ meets our greatest needs, we should also be thankful for other good things in our life such as our husbands, children, family, friends, fellowship with other believers, food to eat, clothing to wear, etc. We can LOOK at our lives today and see the abundance that is there.

We can also look at other "smaller" things to be thankful for such as:

• A cup of tea

• A quite moment

• Good food

• Rain and sunshine

• Playing with your children or grandchildren

• Reading a book to your kids

• Watching a Christian friendly movie

• Beautiful artwork

• A clean house (after we have cleaned it!)

• An enjoyable holiday

• The beauty in the changing seasons

Etc.

More ways to live abundantly: (just some simple suggestions, not "rules" that you have to follow)

• Focus more on what you DO have and less upon what you lack.

• Think of ways to give more to others. Put others before yourself. Be charitable, loving and kind.

• Stop comparing yourself and your family and home to others.

• Don't worry about fashion trends, beauty culture, diet culture etc all of which can actually be quite toxic. Instead, just wear modest but classic styles that you like; decorate your home in your unique style but try to keep a decent budget; eat good tasting and healthy food and stay clear of extreme diets; take care of your body without overly focusing on it.

• Stop following social media pages that make you feel bad or that upset you. Cut back on watching the news. Take breaks from screens and try reading a good, Christian friendly book instead.

• Pick up a fun, Christian friendly hobby that you can do in your spare time.

• Spend more time reading the Bible. Do verse by verse Bible studies. Consider also scripture writing or Bible coloring.

• Keep a spending budget and learn to enjoy frugal shopping. When you keep a budget you will have more money available for necessities and emergencies.

• Keep a daily gratitude journal.

• Give to a charity and donate to your favorite ministries.

Make Your Homemaking More Enjoyable

• Try listening to gospel hymns and Christian music while you clean or even a good Christian sermon, Bible study or podcast that you can listen to in the background.

• Open the curtains to let the sunshine in every morning.

• Try gentle lighting in the evenings.

• Buy candles, wax melts or other scents that you like to add a nice, enjoyable fragrance to your home.

• Create a daily schedule and daily routines for your homemaking that helps you to get things done but isn't too overwhelming. Adjust when you need to.

• Be gentle with yourself and give yourself grace. There are no perfect wives, mothers and homemakers.
