Romans 6:8-11 | Verse by Verse Rightly Divided Bible Study

Romans 6:8-11

Father God, thank you so much for this time that we can spend reading and studying your holy word rightly divided. Thank you for teaching us that we are dead to sin and alive unto God. Thank you for preserving your word perfectly for us today (in the English language it is the KJB) so that we can read and study it, keeping our minds renewed. I am thankful to have a bible, the King James Bible that is without any errors at all! In Christs name we pray, amen.

8 Now if we be dead with Christ, we believe that we shall also live with him:

Now that we understand that our old man has died, it's important to also understand that we are spiritually alive in Christ. It is His life in us, from the moment that we believed the Gospel, that makes us spiritually alive in him. It is also his word rightly divided in us, when we read, study and yeild ourselves over to obey it, that keeps our minds renewed so that Christ can live in and through us.

9 Knowing that Christ being raised from the dead dieth no more; death hath no more dominion over him.

Wow. It's important to remember that Christ died ONCE and for all for our sins. Death has absolutely no dominion over the Lord Jesus Christ. He conquered sin and death! He did this for you and I so that we could have eternal life in him. Therefore, as believers, because we are in Christ, sin and death no longer have power over us. Yes, we still sometimes sin and yes we might die physically if the rapture doesn't happen first, but we will one day have eternal glorified bodies and live in the heavenly places in the presence of the Lord forever!

In the here and now, we can also live a victorious life. The victorious life in Christ is NOT about never suffering, and having "health and wealth" while we remain here on earth for a short time. Rather, the victorious life is about having God's Spirit in our spirit as believers and having his word rightly divided working effectually in us. It's about allowing Christ to live in and through us, not about "getting things" to please our flesh!

1Co 15:57 KJV -

57 But thanks be to God, which giveth us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.

Also, no matter what we experience in this life as believers, God works it together for good. Praise the Lord!

10 For in that he died, he died unto sin once: but in that he liveth, he liveth unto God.

The Lord Jesus Christ died unto sin ONCE. This is important to understand. The catholic church teaches people that during the mass service, the priests perform a special ceremony in which essentially Christ is crucified and his body is in the cracker that they eat and his blood is in the wine or grape juice that they drink. This is a lie! In this verse we learn that Christ died unto sin ONCE, not at every mass all around the world for the past 2,000 years! Also, he is RISEN and seated at the right hand of God in the heavenly places. This practice by the Catholics and others who practice it is called MYSTICISM and it's a form of idol worship. It's turning carnal objects into an object to worship (the bread and wine). They will also put a cracker in a special encasement and sit and stare at it for hours believing it gives them some kind of special blessings or spiritual enlightenment. The last supper was symbolic of what the Lord would do for us, and the keeping of the Lord's supper today is accomplished when believers get together to read and study God's word rightly divided! We feast on and drink in God's word and remember his death, burial and resurrection as atonement for our sins.

Matthew 4:4 says,

4 But he answered and said, It is written, Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God.

John 6

3It is the spirit that quickeneth; the flesh profiteth nothing: the words that I speak unto you, they are spirit, and they are life.

You and I are doing this together right now and we don't need a cathedral, priest, long mass service, cracker or wine to do so! We just need God's word and time together (even daily) reading and studying it!

Christ also lives unto God. Jesus is God and he brings glory to the Father by having been obedient to God's will. We also are to live now, as believers, unto God by obeying his word rightly divided. We do this by reading and studying God's word, believing it and then yeilding ourselves over to obey it.

Christ is God's beloved and because we are in Christ and he is in us, we are also God's beloved.

Mat 3:17 KJV -

17 And lo a voice from heaven, saying, This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased.

Mar 9:7 KJV -

7 And there was a cloud that overshadowed them: and a voice came out of the cloud, saying, This is my beloved Son: hear him.

Rom 1:7 KJV -

7 To all that be in Rome, beloved of God, called to be saints: Grace to you and peace from God our Father, and the Lord Jesus Christ.

Eph 1:6 KJV -

6 To the praise of the glory of his grace, wherein he hath made us accepted in the beloved.

Paul goes on to say,

11 Likewise reckon ye also yourselves to be dead indeed unto sin, but alive unto God through Jesus Christ our Lord.

Reckon means to count, consider or to really meditate upon knowing something to be true. What Paul is telling us is to really think over, know and remember that you are dead to sin but alive unto God. Your true identity is in Christ, not in Adam. You are identified now as a saint, one who is Gods dearly beloved, not as a sinner who is still at enmity with God. Without this understanding of your new identity in Christ, you will continue to walk after the flesh. So, this is important to really think about and meditate upon. In fact I want to recommend something before we move on to other verses. Take this verse and find others in scripture that speak about your identity in Christ and really meditate over these verses. Really think it over. Write the verses out in a journal, or say them repeatedly out loud to help you memorize them. This will greatly help you in your Christian walk and bring you great joy and peace!

Homework: Find the first reference to a specific word in scripture. Then, see if you can learn more about that words meaning by looking at the words first reference in the KJB. Example: The word "yeild" in verse 16. The first reference or use of the word "yeild" is in Genesis 4:12. Read that verse and see if you can learn more about that words meaning. Find another word in Romans 6 to define by the same method.
